MBDA has selected CDL SYSTEMS Ltd to support the Fire Shadow Loitering Munitions Programme |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 20, 2008 MBDA UK Limited has selected CDL Systems Limited to support the "Fire Shadow" Loitering Munitions Assessment Phase Programme which is one of the six Team Complex Weapons launch programmes.
CALGARY – 20 October 2008 – Fire Shadow is a solution for the UK ground forces' requirement for an all-weather, 24 hour capability to carry out precision attacks across the full spectrum of conflict and in complex scenarios. This will include attacks against individual and groups of hard and soft, static, manoeuvring and mobile surface targets. CDL has been selected to support MBDA in the development of the software for the ground-based Control Node. The Control Node consists of software functionality to provide a Vehicle Specific Module and an operator-driven mission control system. CDL is providing its common Core UAV Control System (CUCS) product which has been developed over a number of years and used across a number of previous projects. This CUCS product implements the STANAG 4586 standard for the command and control of unmanned vehicles. CDL was selected due to its previous experience and proven track record working on the Loitering Munitions Capability Demonstrator (LMCD), which addressed the non- equipment lines of development. The company also has extensive experience in developing software for Unmanned Vehicle control systems. Notes to Editor In July 2006, the UK MoD announced at the Farnborough Air Show that it would award the Loitering Munition Demonstration and Manufacture phase of the Indirect Fire Precision Attack (IFPA) programme as a single-source contract to the MBDA (UK)-led Team CW, subject to an enduring requirement for this technology, affordability and the ability to clearly demonstrate Value For Money. Following this 2006 announcement, the MBDA-led Team LM (for Loitering Munition) began working closely with the Ministry of Defence’s IFPA IPT to prepare for the launch of the Loitering Munitions Assessment Phase. This phase was officially launched at the Farnborough Air Show in July 2008 as part of an overall package of programmes awarded to the joint MoD and industry partnership, Team Complex Weapons. CDL Systems Controls GoldenEye 80 VTOL |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 19, 2008 CDL Systems’ VCS-4586 flies GoldenEye 80 VTOLCDL Systems flies Aurora Flight Sciences GoldenEye 80 with VCS-4586 CALGARY – 19 August 2008 – CDL Systems Ltd. (CDL), an industry leader in unmanned vehicle control software development, announces the successful integration and flight of VCS-4586 with the Virginia based Aurora Flight Sciences (Aurora) GoldenEye 80 ducted-fan unmanned aircraft system. Developed by CDL, VCS-4586 is a STANAG 4586 compatible integrated command, control, and information system designed for controlling and monitoring unmanned vehicle systems. The GoldenEye 80, a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aircraft system with a wingspan of 9.6 ft and a gross weight of 180 lbs, is one of the most advanced ducted-fan unmanned systems of its type. Utilizing a free-floating wing design, the GoldenEye 80 is capable of transitioning from VTOL operations to high-speed wing-borne flight with an endurance of up to 8 hours. The flight demonstration using VCS-4586, to an undisclosed client, showcased the capabilities of the GoldenEye 80. Its ability to remain acoustically undetected in most background noise environments makes it an ideal solution for homeland security and surveillance applications. Sundeep Kharey, Business Development Engineer at CDL called the flights “a significant achievement for both Aurora and CDL as this is the first VTOL system flown using VCS-4586.” About CDL Systems CDL Systems Ltd. is a privately owned software development company based in Calgary, Canada. CDL Systems Sponsors Winning Robot |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 6, 2008 CDL Sponsored Unmanned Robot Receives Award for Best DesignCompany Sponsored Robotics Team Takes Top Prize at IARC 2008 Robotics Competition CALGARY – 6 August 2008 – CDL Systems Ltd., an industry leader in unmanned vehicle control software development, is proud to announce that Team DeVry Calgary, sponsored by CDL Systems, captured first place for Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) Design at the International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC) 2008 in Ft. Benning, Georgia. The winning entry, a robot called Nova 5, was developed by DeVry students Fady and Sami Khaled. Designed to enter buildings and autonomously identify specific targets, Nova 5's processor is based on a neural network similar to the human brain allowing it to "think" and react based on images stored in its database. Of the 27 teams registered in the competition, DeVry was teamed with Embry Riddle University and finished third overall claiming $12,200 in prize money. The IARC was first held in 1991 with the primary goal to further the development of aerial robotics through a collegiate competition. Teams rely on the backing of government and industry partners like CDL Systems to develop their state-of-the-art robotics.
